About Justin

Justin L. Mann is Assistant Professor of English and African American Studies at Northwestern University.

He received Ph.D. in American Studies from George Washington University in 2018.

His research and teaching interests include African American literature, speculative fiction, black feminist theory and queer of color critique, and security studies. He is currently working on a book project called Breaking the World: Black Insecurity and the Horizons of Speculative Fiction.

Justin’s work has appeared in American Quartlerly, MELUS, Feminist TheoryFeminist Studies, and Surveillance & Society, and his research has been supported by the Huntington Library in Pasadena, CA.
